Donegal book Ulster U21 semi-final place as Armagh and Antrim set for replay

Donegal defeated Fermanagh in Ballybofey tonight.

PATRICK MCBREARTY HELPED inspire Donegal to reach the Ulster U21 semi-final tonight but they will have to wait to discover the identity of their opponents after Armagh and Antrim finished all square.

Donegal proved too strong for Fermanagh in Ballybofey but had to overcome a slow start to triumph. Eddie Courtney’s excellent play helped Fermanagh move into a 0-5 to 0-2 lead.

But Donegal were boosted by a Willie Gillespie goal and then Ciaran Brennan found the net before half-time to ensure they were ahead 2-4 to 0-5 at the midway mark.

Donegal continued to dominate in the second-half with McBrearty excelling and he rounded off their victory by firing home their third goal.

ANTRIM FOUGHT BACK to draw with Armagh after extra-time to secure a draw at the Athletic Grounds tonight.

The Saffrons came back from seven points down with two minutes left of normal time to level.

Armagh let slip a six-point lead in extra-time as Antrim’s second fightback secured a replay next Wednesday.

Antrim had got an early boost when Ronan McGrady struck a penalty to the net to put them 1-2 to 0-2 ahead after 15 minutes.

But Armagh drew level at 1-2 to 0-5 at the interval and then Ethan Rafferty blasted home a 42nd minute penalty for Armagh.

It looked like Armagh would win comfortably but two late goals from full-forward McGrady helped Antrim draw level at 1-14 to 3-8.

And in extra-time Antrim battled back again to secure a replay.
