'We need to be embraced properly. Galway need championship hurling in Galway.'

Should next Saturday’s replay be played in Salthill?

GALWAY AND DUBLIN’S hurlers couldn’t be separated at Croke Park yesterday and now round two beckons for the sides next Saturday afternoon.

O’Connor Park in Tullamore has been announced as the venue for the replay with the counties meeting for the first time at the stadium since 2011 when Dublin triumphed.

The replay has brought up the issue of Galway not having home games in the Leinster hurling championship, a clause that was part of the arrangement since they first participated in the province in 2009.

Galway boss Anthony Cunningham has no qualms with Tullamore as a venue but feels the county needs to be properly ‘embraced’ in Leinster and get home games.

Issue

Look, I’m not going to make an issue of it but we need to have a home and away basis in Leinster. I suppose we need to be embraced properly into Leinster.
“Galway need championship hurling in Galway. It’s something for the future. It’s something I thought might have happened by now.

“The Galway hurling public have always travelled to matches so, to be fair to the loyal supporters, I think they’d welcome that.

“We’d love if Dublin came to Pearse Stadium and Galway were in Leinster properly and were able to get home and away matches.”

Love

Last week Galway hurler David Collins revealed that he’d ‘love’ to see Pearse Stadium hosting one of their championship encounters.

“I’d love to see it, I’d love to see a game being brought across. We have never played a championship game in Pearse Stadium, well I never have other than a qualifier game, but when it comes to the real meaty part of it we’ve never played a game.

If the game was there, Pearse Stadium would be full, there would be a massive atmosphere there and of course it would benefit Galway having a championship game there.

Where do you think the match should be played next Saturday?
