As it happened: Galway v Dublin, Leinster senior hurling championship quarter-final

We followed all the action live from Tullamore.

Good afternoon and welcome along to our live coverage of today’s Leinster senior hurling championship quarter-final between Galway and Dublin from O’Connor Park in Tullamore.

The action gets underway at 4pm and we’ll keep you up to date right here.

It’s another busy Sunday of championship action up and down the country.

Here’s the Dublin team as named on Friday evening, with manager Ger Cunningham handing championship debuts to Donal Burke, Ben Quinn, Eoghan Conroy and Sean Moran.

Meanwhile, this is how Galway will line-up for this afternoon’s clash with the league winners making just one change from the side that blitzed Tipperary in last month’s final.

Fit again Conor Cooney comes in for Niall Burke in the Tribe attack, while Michael Donoghue sticks with the rest of the side from the Gaelic Grounds victory.

The teams are lining up for the national anthem in Tullamore, with a large crowd inside O’Connor Park ahead of this Leinster SHC clash.

We’re off! Dublin won the toss and they’ll attack the Town End in this first half. Perfect conditions for a game this afternoon.

Dublin have made a bright start here and are rewarded with the first score of the day as Chris Crummey collects a loose pass from a Galway shirt and dissects the posts from range.

Galway given the chance to level the scores as Sean Moran is penalised for overstepping and Joe Canning steps up and fires a fine free over from just inside his own 65.

From the puck out, Chris Dooley gives it straight to Jason Flynn and he has the simple task of popping it over from close-range. The Dublin goalkeeper puts his hand up and apologises to his team-mates.

David Treacy and Niall McMorrow are just off target for Dublin as David Burke extends Galway’s lead with a fine score. Good start to this game.

Oisin Gough slips and Conor Whelan latches onto the loose ball. He makes the angle for himself and fires it between the posts for Galway’s fourth score on the bounce.

Nice move from Dublin from deep to manufacture the space for Ben Quinn and he applies the finish by riffling it low into the net but the whistle had already gone for overstepping. 13 minutes gone.

The ball is dropped into the Galway square and it falls for Eamon Dillon, who just squeezes it over from a tight angle.

Dublin are just beginning to click now and they’re moving the ball around O’Connor Park nicely. Shane Barrett launches one over from long-range and Cunningham’s men are back to within a point.

And Dublin are now in the lead as they notch four without reply. David Treacy shows good composure to put it away after tireless work from the Dublin midfield.

Canning gets the ball on the far touchline and pucks inside for Cathal Mannion to level proceedings before Mannion restores Galway’s lead.

Joe Canning finds himself in acres of space and with the freedom of O’Connor Park, he has the easiest of tasks to extend his side’s lead. Joseph Cooney adds another and Galway, who have scored four points in three minutes, are beginning to motor.

Treacy stems the tide with a free for Dublin after 23 minutes.

Galway forced into a change here as Paul Killeen looks to be in some pain and is carried off by Galway’s medics. John Hanbury is on in his place.

When we restart, David Treacy is on target from another free and it’s a two-point game again.

Dublin are exposed and caught short at the back and Joseph Cooney bears down on goal. His effort is stopped brilliantly by Conor Dooley but it breaks to Jason Flynn, who makes no mistake from close range.

What a pass from Joe Canning! The awareness and vision is absolutely outstanding as he arrows a pass across goal for Jason Flynn, who is just pushed a little wide and in the end has to settle for a point. Canning has been superb so far and Dublin are really struggling to live with the movement of the Dublin forwards.

McMorrow’s effort sails wide and that’s now eight wides for Dublin so far. Into stoppage time at the end of this first half.

Dublin haven’t scored in 11 minutes and Treacy has the chance to get the scoreboard ticking over again from a 65 but his effort is pushed and sails wide.

Great work from Donal Burke and he feeds Ben Quinn, who fires past Colm Callanan to give Dublin a real boost on the stroke of half time.

Bright start from the league winners as they hit back-to-back points on the restart, the second of which came from Joe Canning.

Meanwhile, Dublin made a change at the break with Rian McBride on for Eoghan Conroy.

Red card! Cian O’Callaghan is shown a second yellow card and Dublin’s task has just become even tougher as they play the rest of this game with 14 men.

Five points without reply as David Burke reels off another from range. At the other end, Dillon stems the tide with a point of his own but it’s a long way back for 14-man Dublin now.

It has been a very impressive start to this second period from Galway and they are now in control of this Leinster SHC quarter-final clash as Joe Canning arrows over another free.

Points are flowing now and after McBride opened his account at the other end, Galway respond immediately and it’s a seven-point game again.
