Dubs on the back-burner for now as captain Brennan savours All-Ireland club glory

Ger Brennan completed a memorable season with victory in Croke Park yesterday.

ALL-IRELAND GLORY with Dublin last September, All-Ireland glory with St Vincent’s yesterday.

Croke Park continues to be the scene of triumphs for Ger Brennan with the 28 year-old now savoring his second club triumph after their success against Castlebar Mitchels yesterday.

The 28 year-old was one of the survivors from St Vincent’s victory at this stage five years ago and he’s determined to savour this win, parking any 2014 plans to rejoin the Dublin squad for the moment.

“I’ll answer that (rejoining Dublin) in a couple of weeks, genuinely. I’ve thought nothing about Dublin.

“It’s been all focused in on the club and to win an All-Ireland with St Vincent’s. To play with your club mates is such a great honour and to captain them is a privlige

“I remember in 2008 looking at Mossy Quinn who was captain in a selfish egotistical way I was probably envious of him lifting the cup even though it was the team.

“Again, as you get older, you lose some of the egotism and the team comes into the picture. Just to win is great and to win with your team, any time, any season is brilliant.”

For Brennan the victory was a sweet one as he had battled back to full fitness after missing out on the semi-final win over Ballinderry.

“I was just about fit for the semi-final and I was working hard to get back, along with Ruairi Trainor. But there were 33 other lads on the panel working extremely hard as well to get into the team. I didn’t find out I was starting until two days ago.

It is just great to be fit, to be healthy, to wake up and to be playing with a great group of guys here, and with Dublin. Then to win is just an added bonus, so I just enjoy every moment.”
