Hivert wins second stage in France

The Frenchman beat Movistar rider Rui Costa in an uphill finish to complete the 149.1km stage from Montbeliard to Moutier.

JONATHAN HIVERT TOOK out stage two of the Tour de Romandie today as Bradley Wiggins retained his overall lead.

Frenchman Hivert (Saur-Sojasun) beat Portuguese Movistar rider Rui Costa in an uphill finish to complete the 149.1km stage from Montbeliard to Moutier. Rabobank’s Luis Leon Sanchez ended up third, while Sky’s Wiggins, who won the opening stage, finished in the main group.

Brit Wiggins holds a seven-second lead over Australian Michael Rogers (Sky), with Dutchmen Bauke Mollema and Stef Clement third. GreenEDGE’s Christian Meier and Lotto-Belisol’s Lars Bak held an advantage of over three minutes with 50km to go, but were caught soon after.

Peter Stetina and Fabrice Jeandesboz launched a counter-attack, only to be caught with 4km left, with Hivert too strong in the finish.
