Injury Update

Leinster expect Fitzgerald and Conway to return soon

Luke Fitzgerald and Andrew Conway may be fit in time to line out for Leinster against the Glasgow Warriors this weekend.

LEINSTER HOPE TO welcome both Luke Fitzgerald and Andrew Conway back to full training later this week.

Both players are said to be responding well to a 10-day rehabilitation programme and could be in line for a return against the Glasgow Warriors in Firhill on Saturday evening.

Fitzgerald has been sidelined with a neck injury since Leinster’s win against Ulster on St Stephen’s Day. Early indicators suggested that the utility back would be fit again by early February, but Leinster have since refused to rush either himself or Conway back to action.

A decision on both players will be taken on Friday, the province said this afternoon.

Elsewhere, there are no fresh injury concerns following Friday’s 16-13 win against the Scarlets in Dublin. Dominic Ryan, who replaced Rhys Ruddock at number eight for the final 13 minutes, emerged unscathed from his first appearance after more than three months on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

With Ireland hosting Italy on Saturday afternoon in the Six Nations, Joe Schmidt will have to do without a host of his star names for the trip to Firhill.

Inside centre Fergus McFadden did his international claims no harm by scoring all 16 points on Friday evening, including a crucial penalty at the death to extend Leinster’s unbeaten run to 18 games in all competitions.

The win kept Leinster’s advantage at the top of the RaboDirect Pro12 at 10 points, ahead of the Ospreys in second place.
