IRELAND’S BID TO host the 2023 Rugby World Cup was formally launched this morning, with actor Liam Neeson narrating a short video to showcase Ireland’s candidacy.
The announcement kickstarts a year-long process which will see Ireland compete against South Africa and France for the tournament, with a decision due in November 2017.
A winning bid would be worth in the region of €800 million to the Irish economy, according to projections.
“Imagine a tournament the envy of the world, a festival of rugby,” Neeson says. “More than participation. Celebration. A world of memories for the world to share.
“We’re ready to create something unforgettable.”
