Welcome to our coverage of the Pool 6 clash from the Sportsground… We’re about three minutes from kick-off. Neither side has recorded a win so far so there’s everything to play for…

Nothing but a win today will do… We’re off!

An important tackle by Morgan on Frank Murphy just outside the Gloucester try-line. Quick turnover ball and they were away…

Freddie Burns has a kick for goal from 45 yards. He makes it – straight and true. First points of the match to Gloucester…

Niall O’Connor doesn’t lack distance with the boot, but his attempt is as wide as it is high. Not good. Gloucester still lead.

“Ever since Gloucester lost to Saracens the wheels have come off, literally.” No. No they haven’t. There are no wheels.

Freddie Burns’ latest kick has the distance but just misses the mark. A fierce breeze in Galway but it’s not helping anyone.

A rousing effort from Fuimaono-Sapolu leads to another Gloucester penalty and the Premiership side go 6-0 up. Burns again.

Freddie Burns hits the post with his latest penalty and it bounces back out. Connacht’s poor showing at the line-out is costing them dearly, they could be 12 or 15 points behind…

Jim Hamilton is admonished for a lack of discipline by the referee, nothing much to it. O’Connor goes right for the corner with the penalty but misses.

Sharples is shackled as Gloucester go to ground. The referee feels that Connacht have won the ball illegally, much to the annoyance of the home support.

An attacking line-out, Buxton takes it, Gloucester roll for the line on the right-hand side… They slow the pace down with Hamilton… Burns to Sharples to Simpson-Daniel who is met by Gavin Duffy. Exemplary defence but the try is inevitable. It comes through Simpson-Daniel.

Burns scythes the conversion wide.

Connacht strike straight back! Gavin Duffy steals the ball in midfield – the wind played its part – and although the Gloucester players are calling for a knock on, the try stands. Niall O’Connor adds the extras.

Connacht are reinvigorated and McCrea pulls out a stunning kick to touch.

The crowd are in fine voice as Gloucester continue to dominate the line-out. Charlie Sharples picks up on a kick from Trinder and the TMO decides that he’s barely, barely missed the line. No try.

It’s half-time. Connacht are down but they fought back well. It’s a great atmosphere and an entertaining match. Connacht will have the wind behind them in the second half, will they turn things around?

The teams take to the field again. Both sides are desperate to bookend some recent dismal form with a win…

With fewer than three minutes on the clock, Connacht have the chance to bring it back to just one point. O’Connor lines it up, and…. it’s over.

An excellent clearance from Frank Murphy gets Connacht out of trouble. The home forwards are at their tenacious best.

The gane has stalled, somewhat. Gloucester have a penalty inside their own half and clear their lines.

Big tackle from Connacht as Gloucester straddle the home side’s line. Gavin Duffy just about clears. Gloucester pay the price for kicking the ball away when it would have been better staying in hand. Somewhat idiotic.

Connacht have had enough of repelling their visitors and have decided to play some rugby themselves.

It feels like 17 years since the last score. Gloucester can’t make their dominance pay..

Connacht have never really looked like threatening the Gloucester try-line, and this penalty for the English side could make all the difference. Freddie Burns makes no mistake and puts four points in the difference.

Just over five minutes remaining as Gloucester march Connacht back. A huge scrum. It’s looking hopeless for Elwood and co.

Connacht can’t get their hands on the ball with just a minute left. They do grab a penalty inches from their own line, and O’Connor finds great position, but they still have it all to do.

The rain starts falling. Symbolism. It’s the last play.

Charlie Sharples kicks the ball out of play and Gloucester win the game by four points. It’s been some battle, but the quality was low. Connacht’s search for a first Heineken Cup win goes on.
