Training ground knee injury puts Suarez in doubt for World Cup

The Uruguayan is reported to be booked in for keyhole surgery this morning after badly jarring his knee.

URUGUAY HAVE SUFFERED a World Cup shock with their star striker Luis Suarez set to undergo surgery on Thursday just 21 days before the competition begins, reports said.

Liverpool’s Premier League Player of the Year injured his knee in training on Wednesday but there is hope he could still play a role for the 2010 World Cup semi-finalists’ in Brazil.

Uruguayan sports broadcaster Tenfield is reporting that Suarez is booked in for keyhole surgery at 11:30 [Irish time] this morning. The surgery is to repair damage to the striker’s meniscus. Estimates of recovery range between two to four weeks.

Uruguay’s first game is against Costa Rica on 14 June. They are also set to play England during the pool stages.
