Mayo make one change for Connacht semi-final as All-Ireland U21 captain loses out

Throw-in on Saturday night at Elverys MacHale Park is 7pm.

THERE’S JUST THE one change to the Mayo team that will start in Saturday’s Connacht senior football semi-final against Galway.

Tom Parsons comes in to start at midfield alongside Jason Gibbons with All-Ireland U21 winning captain Stephen Coen the player to lose out.

Manager Stephen Rochford has otherwise named an unchanged side from that which defeated London in their Connacht clash last month.

There are nine survivors from the Mayo team which saw off Galway by 1-15 to 2-8 last June at the Connacht semi-final stage.

Kevin Keane, Keith Higgins, Lee Keegan, Colm Boyle, Parsons, Kevin McLoughlin, Aidan O’Shea, Jason Doherty and Cillian O’Connor all started that game.

Higgins starts after his recent hurling exploits when he helped Mayo win the Nicky Rackard Cup.

The newcomers are goalkeeper Robbie Hennelly, corner-back Brendan Harrison, wing-back Patrick Durcan, midfielder Gibbons and the corner-forward duo of Evan Regan and Conor O’Shea.

Conor Loftus, Shane Nally, Andy Moran, Cathal Carolan, Alan Dillon and David Drake all came on as substitutes in the recent London tie but have not been able to force their way into the starting side this time.

Throw-in on Saturday night at Elverys MacHale Park is 7pm.
