Monaghan reach first Ulster U21 final in 9 years as they storm to victory against Armagh

Monaghan had 13 points to spare tonight in Newry.

MONAGHAN BOOKED THEIR spot in the EirGrid Ulster U21 football final for the first time since 2007 with a powerful display against Armagh in tonight’s semi-final clash in Páirc Esler in Newry.

Monaghan enjoyed a three-point advantage at half-time and took over in the second-half to run out victors by thirteen points.

Conor McCarthy and Barry McGinn got Monaghan on the board early with points but Armagh responded with Cathal McKenna and Conor Martin showing up well.

By the 19th minute Armagh were in front 0-6 to 0-4 yet they failed to score for the remainder of the first-half.

Instead it was Monaghan who took over as they picked off five points to move in front by 0-9 to 0-6 at the interval.

Matters improved further for Monaghan early in the second-half when Fearghal McMahon found the net from the penalty spot.

They were never to be caught from there and Francis Maguire added a second goal late on as they cruised into the decider.
