The Morning Score: Tuesday

There’s plenty going on in the world of sport this morning – and that’s before we even get to the inevitable deadline day helicopter rides. Here’s the latest.

EVERY WEEKDAY MORNING, TheScore.ie brings you the stories you need to know before 9am.

1. #DEADLINE DAY It does tend to sneak up on you somewhat, but today is football’s transfer deadline day — the biennial equivalent of Christmas Day for Sky Sports News.

We’ll kick off a liveblog shortly to keep you posted on all the wheelings and dealings before 11pm. Jelavic to Everton? Bridge to Sunderland? A last-minute loan move for Carlos Tevez? This could get interesting.

2. #ULSTER RUGBY There could be a new man in charge at Ravenhill next season. Reports in both the Irish Examiner and the Belfast Telegraph this morning claim that Ulster do not intend to renew coach Brian McLaughlin’s contract when it expires in May.

McLaughlin has coached Ulster since 2009, guiding the province to a second successive Heineken Cup quarter-final this season.

3. #SEANIE JOHNSTON The Cavan county board have said that they will be unable to approve Seanie Johnston’s proposed inter-county transfer to the Kildare footballers.

In a statement released last night, Cavan said that “they believe there is a doubt” about Johnston’s compliance with Rule 6.9, which states that a player must be in permanent residence within the new county for a transfer to be granted.

4. #KEVIN CASSIDY Jim McGuinness appeared to suggest yesterday that Kevin Cassidy might yet have a future with the Donegal senior football squad.

Cassidy was dropped from the squad in acrimonious circumstances for breaching team rules with his contribution to Declan Bogue’s book This Is Our Year, but speaking yesterday, McGuinness said that he “wouldn’t close the door.”

5. #PREMIER LEAGUE There are five Premier League games scheduled for this evening. League leaders Manchester City will hope to maintain their three-point advantage at the top with a win away to Everton, while neighbours Manchester United host Stoke.

Chelsea travel to Swansea, Tottenham take on Wigan at White Hart Lane, and Liverpool are at Molineux to face Mick McCarthy’s Wolves.

6. #SIX NATIONS Wolfhounds try scorers David Kearney and Simon Zebo were among nine players added to Ireland’s Six Nations training camp yesterday.

Kearney, Zebo, Eoin O’Malley, Brett Wilkinson, Chris Henry, Denis Hurley, Dan Tuohy, Rhys Ruddock and Peter O’Mahony were all included as Declan Kidney convened a 32-man squad for the final week of preparations before Ireland meet Wales in Dublin this Sunday.
