International referee Nigel Owens was left “shaken” but unhurt after a motorway accident on Monday, he revealed on Twitter.
The accident occurred as Owens drove from Bristol Airport to south Wales after officiating in the European Cup match between Castres and Leinster in France on Sunday.
Owens, who has refereed three European Cup finals and was an assistant referee at the 2011 World Cup final in New Zealand, had been chalked in to take charge of this weekend’s marquee Heineken Cup match between Leicester and Ulster and there has been no indication that there will be need for a change.
