Ciara Everard will be looking to put an injury-plagued season behind her when she lines out in the heats of the women’s 800m. The Kilkenny native has drawn lane five in heat one which is scheduled for a 14.55 start.

The best of the rest
Some of today’s highlights include the men’s football, where all eyes will be on Neymar and Brazil as they take on Honduras in the semi-final from 17.00. The host nation are chasing their first Olympic gold medal in football and the Barcelona striker is leading their charge. Nigeria and Germany contest the other semi from 20.00.
Another couple of events for the diary include Mo Farah running in heat one of the men’s 5,000m at 14.05 and Usain Bolt in semi-final 2 of the 200m at 2am on Thursday morning.
The host nation will also take on rivals Argentina in the quarter-finals of the men’s volleyball at 02.15 tomorrow morning. Croatia v Serbia in the quarter-finals of the men’s basketball will likely be well worth a watch too. That begins at the same time.
Also on in the early hours of Thursday morning is the women’s 200m final (2.30am), women’s 100m hurdles final (2.55am) and final of the women’s beach volleyball (4am).

The men’s decathlon gets under way today, an event that showcases some of the best all-round athletes in the world. Just the five events for these freakishly talented humans today, starting with the 100m around lunchtime before they move on to the long jump, shot put, high jump and 400m. Ashton Eaton of the US is the reigning Olympic champion and world record holder so unsurprisingly is a heavy favourite (1/9) with the bookies to take gold.
