Patrick Hughes, of Fenniscourt Stud in Bagenalstown, Carlow, appeared in Carlow District Court last Thursday on charges of possessing animal remedies without authorisation.

The charges relate to having Vetaglin, Jurocyl, Diurex, Aspegic powder, Stanozol, A.M.P.5, V.A.M., L-Carnitine on his stud on 2 February 2012.

Stanozol was one of the performance -enhancing drugs used by former Godolphin trainer Mahmood al-Zarooni. He was banned from the sport for eight years following a scandal in 2013.

Hughes has trained two winners of the Irish Grand National, Insure (1986) and Point Barrow (2006).
