Airtricity League: Saints overcome Rovers to keep pressure on Sligo

A Sean O’Connor penalty, in addition to an own goal by Colin Hawkins, were enough to give the hosts the win.

ST PATRICK’S ATHLETIC beat Shamrock Rovers 2-1 to maintain their bid for the Airtricity League title at Richmond Park this evening.

A Sean O’Connor penalty, in addition to an own goal by Colin Hawkins following Jake Carroll’s shot, meant the hosts were 2-0 up inside ten minutes.

A 77th minute stunner from Gary McCabe gave his side hope, and Rovers went close thereafter, but ultimately could not unlock the opposition defence.

The win leaves Pat’s in second place in the table, six points behind leaders Sligo.
