Premier League preview: how to fill out your midweek football accumulator

Four down, but there’s plenty more Premier League action tonight.

Updated 8am February 12

Last night’s predictions.

Cardiff v Aston Villa

After the disappointment of going down 3-0 to rivals Swansea in Saturday’s Welsh derby, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must pick his players up for the visit of Aston Villa.

The Bluebirds sit second from bottom thanks to just one win and five defeats from their last six league outings. Villa, who won out when the sides met back in November, arrive on the back of a 2-0 loss to West Ham.

Bet:  Aston Villa @ 21/20

Hull v Southampton

Shane Long’s second goal for Hull helped his new club earn victory over Sunderland last weekend with fellow January signing Nikica Jelavic also on the scoresheet.

The Tigers are up to 11th in the table as a result but there is nothing between the clubs in the bottom half with the relegation zone just four points below them.

Southampton had to make do with a draw at home to Stoke on Saturday and Rickie Lambert, who was on target when the Saints won the corresponding fixture in November, will be hoping to score for a third consecutive game.

Bet:  Southampton @ 13/8

West Ham v Norwich

Level on 25 points with tonight’s opponents Norwich, West Ham find themselves out of the drop zone due to wins over Swansea and Aston Villa.

Hammers skipper Kevin Nolan can take much of the credit as he has scored four goals in two games with Andy Carroll suspended and Big Sam will be banking on the midfielder once again.

Norwich come into the game having held Man City to a scoreless draw at Carrow Road.

Bet:  Draw @ 23/10

West Brom v Chelsea (8pm)

West Brom will be not be expected to pick up any points when Chelsea arrive at The Hawthorns today and it’s easy to see why.

Top of the league after following up victory over Man City by seeing off Newcastle thanks to Eden Hazard’s first hat-trick in English football, Jose Mourinho’s side look the real deal right now.

The Baggies, contrastingly, have slipped into the bottom three and have yet to earn a win under Pepe Mel.

Bet: Chelsea @ 1/2

Tonight (7.45pm unless stated)

Arsenal v Manchester United

Manchester United’s draw with Fulham will have felt like a defeat to David Moyes after Darren Bent’s injury-time equaliser on Sunday.

Two more dropped points mean the reigning champions are nine points adrift of fourth, currently filled by Liverpool, and they can’t afford to fall even further behind.

Arsenal, humbled by Liverpool last time out, have been knocked off top spot and would love to bounce back in the stand-out game of this round.

Bet: Draw @ 23/10

Everton v Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace travel to Goodison Park buoyed by a 3-1 win over West Brom which saw debut goals for Tom Ince and Joe Ledley.

Tony Pulis deserves plenty of credit for the job he has done since arriving but the Eagles, currently 15th, are not out of trouble yet and face a stern test against the Toffees.

Emmanuel Adebayor’s winner put a dent in Everton’s top four aspirations but Roberto Martinez seemed generally satisfied with their overall performance.

Bet:  Draw @ 16/5

Manchester City v Sunderland

One point and no goals scored from their last two games does not make for great reading if you’re a title contender and Manchester City will be looking to get back on track against Sunderland.

The Black Cats’ good run of results came to an end with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Hull three days ago and Gus Poyet will be without Wes Brown after the defender earned his third red card of the season.

City, meanwhile, have been boosted by news that Yaya Toure will not face any disciplinary action for appearing to kick Norwich’s Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

Bet:  Man City @ 2/11

Newcastle v Tottenham

Tottenham closed the gap on Liverpool despite not playing brilliantly in a 1-0 win over Everton last weekend with the revitalised Emmanuel Adebayor scoring his sixth Premier League goal of the season.

Newcastle are going through a rough patch and have secured just one win in their last seven league games.

Bet:  Draw @ 23/10

Stoke v Swansea

Stoke followed up their excellent win over Manchester United with a respectable draw on the road against Southampton. The Potters are a point below Swansea after Garry Monk’s first game in charge ended in a derby win at home to Cardiff.

Bet: Stoke @ 13/8

Fulham v Liverpool

Liverpool’s top four credentials were greatly strengthened by their performance in the emphatic 5-1 win over Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.

When they last met Fulham back in November two goals by Luis Suarez helped them on their way to a 4-0 victory.

Rene Melensteen’s men showed bags of spirit in the 2-2 draw with Manchester United but must continue to pick up points if they are to get off the foot of the table.

Bet:  Liverpool @ 4/9

Accumulator

A €10 bet will bring a return of €85,058.
