THERE WERE TWO Irish sides in action in the RaboDirect Pro12 this evening, with Connacht beating Cardiff Blues 26-22 and Ulster losing 20-14 to Glasgow.
Connacht’s result was especially impressive, as it was their first away win over the Welsh side in the competition.
Danie Poolman and Willie Faloon (twice) got the tries for Eric Elwood’s men, while Miah Nikora added three penalties and a conversion.
The hosts’ tries came from Harry Robinson and Robin Copeland, while Rhys Patchell got 12 points from the boot, but Connacht ultimately held out for an impressive victory.
Meanwhile, Ulster produced a disappointing performance in Scotland.
Tries from Tim Swinson and Tommy Seymour made it 10-6 to the hosts at the break, with Ruan Pienaar kicking two penalties for his side.
Further second-half tries from Peter Murchie and Stuart Olding kept the game relatively tight, before Nikola Matawalu’s try gave Glasgow a six-point lead.
They subsequently managed to hold onto their lead, despite some Ulster pressure in the final minutes.
