Ratoath clinch Leinster crown - but no Royal flush as Bennettsbridge hurlers trump Kiltale

The Leinster intermediate titles are on their way back to Meath and Kilkenny.

Ratoath 2-13 Athlone 2-9

Bennettsbridge 1-14 Kiltale 0-13

RATOATH ARE THE Leinster intermediate football champions after they weathered a second-half revival by Athlone.

The Meath side raced into a 10-point lead at half-time in Cusack Park but had to hold firm as Athlone cut the deficit to three with 10 minutes to play.

Ratoath pulled clear again and, despite John Connellan’s goal in stoppage time, added intermediate honours to the junior provincial title they won back in 2004.

In Nowlan Park, Kiltale were left to rue the one that got away as Bennettsbridge came from four points down to clinch the Leinster intermediate hurling title.

The Meath side made use of the wind in the first half to lead by 0-9 to 0-5 at the break.

They held their lead until the 49th minute when Sean Morrissey scored the decisive goal to steer the Kilkenny men to their first win in the grade.
