RICHIE TOWELL, THE former Celtic and Hibernian defender, has ended his search for a new club by signing for Dundalk.

Stephen Kenny confirmed last night that Towell, 21, has agreed a move to Oriel Park for 2013 while midfielder Stephen McDonnell has also re-signed for another season.

“We had to overcome a lot of competition to seal Richie’s signing,” Lilywhites chairman Ciaran Bond said. “We are delighted that Stephen was able to sell Dundalk FC to Richie and that he will be with us next season.”

An Irish U21 international, Towell played his schoolboy football with Crumlin United before moving to Celtic in 2007.

With limited first-team chances and just one competitive start in Glasgow, he made the most of  two loan spells with Hibs to finally make his SPL breakthrough and 30 league appearances in the Scottish top flight.

Towell became a free agent this summer when Celtic decided not to renew his contract, and returned home to Dublin.

Meanwhile, Shamrock Rovers have confirmed that Richard Brush has agreed terms for a second spell in Tallaght.

The 28-year-old goalkeeper was part of the Hoops squad that won the league and qualified for the Europa League group stages in 2011 before he returned to his old club Sligo Rovers in 2012.

Brush said: “I really enjoyed my last spell at the club and so when Trevor spoke to me about coming back, there was no decision to be made as far as I was concerned.”
