Brady back fighting fit after injuring himself picking his daughter up out of the bath

One of Ireland’s key man says he is raring to go for Euro 2016.

Ben Blake reports from Versailles

HAVING EMERGED AS a possible injury worry earlier in the week, Robbie Brady has declared himself ready to take on Sweden in Ireland’s first Euro 2016 Group E clash on Monday.

The Dubliner, who could find himself playing either at left-back or in midfield, sat out training on Monday and Tuesday after a freak accident last weekend — he suffered a back spasm after lifting his young child out of the bath.

However, the rest was merely a precautionary measure, and Brady trained freely in yesterday’s open session in Versailles.

“It was just a bit of free time in the couple of days off,” said Brady. “I was at home and I went to pick my daughter up out of the bath and just felt a twinge in my lower back.

Initially I panicked a little bit, but within 24 hours, it had settled down so a couple of days out of training and then back in.

“I feel physically great, as well as almost every other one of the lads. A couple of them are almost there now at the minute, which is good to see as well, so it’s all guns firing now and ready to go.”

If Brady gets the nod ahead of Stephen Ward at full-back, he will be tasked with assisting the centre-halves in stopping Sweden’s talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“He’s a world-class player, but like everyone has said, he’s not the only one,” the Norwich City man added. “They have got some great players.

“If he gets into the game, he can draw other players in, so we have a job on keeping 11 men quiet and hopefully we can do that.”
