'The king is back' - Robbie Keane hits hat-trick for LA Galaxy

The Ireland international was making his second start for the club after being out injured for a period.

ROBBIE KEANE BRUSHED off his recent disappointment with Ireland to hit a hat-trick in LA Galaxy’s recent US Open Cup match, prompting the club’s official website to declare — ‘the king is back’.

The veteran star, who was making his second start for the club after being out injured since April, managed three typically clinical finishes, along with an assist, as his side earned an easy 6-1 win over PSA Elite.

“As a striker, it’s always important to score goals,” Keane said after the game. “Ultimately, you’re judged on scoring no matter what people say. You can do what you want for the team with hard work, but people will look at goals and assists. And since I’ve been here I’ve done that and done it well.

“Unfortunately, I’ve had a long injury and I’m not always used to not playing and when I’m injured it’s usually only a few weeks, but I was out for too long. It’s nice to be back and feeling good. I’m feeling a lot better after playing these 70 minutes and will hopefully continue to score more goals and play longer.”

Granted, the standard looks less than exceptional, but it will certainly do no harm to the player’s confidence ahead of Ireland’s vital upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers in September and October.
