THE PRESIDENT OF cycling’s governing body Pat McQuaid has had his nomination to stand for a third term declared void by Cycling Ireland.
McQuaid who has governed the UCI through a turbulent period of doping scandals was nominated by Cycling Ireland over two weeks ago.
However, with vice-president Anthony Moran resigning in protest after the vote, it proved a controversial one and the sport’s leading body in this country arranged an EGM to discuss the matter this weekend.
With the word ‘technicality’ echoing around Cycling Ireland it would appear that McQuaid may well be reinstated as their UCI Presidential nominee in the coming weeks. However, the move to declare the five-to-one vote void will no doubt be an unwanted headache for the embattled president.
