Late Dennehy goal sends Rovers through to Setanta Cup final

They triumphed on aways goals against Cork, with 2-2 the final score.

A LATE BILLY Dennehy goal was enough to send Shamrock Rovers through to the Setanta Cup final on away goals against Cork City this evening, with the game finishing 2-2.

Having drawn 1-1 in the first leg, City got the advantage on 47 minutes, as Daryl Horgan opened the scoring, with goalkeeper Barry Murphy only able to help the ball into the net following his powerful strike.

A deflected Stephen Rice effort then brought Rovers level with just under 20 minutes left, as the game looked set to go into extra time.

Nevertheless, on 88 minutes, Daryl Kavanagh appeared to have put Cork into the final, as he got on the end of an Ian Turner corner.

Yet there was further drama, as Dennehy scored a last-gasp stoppage time free-kick, to send Rovers through and break City hearts in the process.
