WATERFORD MIDFIELDER EDDIE Barrett was rushed to hospital after dislocating his kneecap in today’s Munster senior hurling quarter-final against Cork.
De La Salle player Barrett, who was making his starting debut for the senior side after coming on as a substitute in the qualifiers against Kilkenny last year, was forced off after 22 minutes of today’s game in Thurles.
Barrett had previously injured his knee before and sustained a recurrence. He was replaced by Richie Foley and is now set for a spell on the sidelines, which will rule him out of the replay on June 8th.
“He’s a dislocated kneecap, he’ll be out for a while,” confirmed Waterford selector Frank Flannery after the game. “It’s just something that happened before and it happened again unfortunately.”
In better news for Waterford — who were hit hard by injuries before the game — Stephen Molumphy and Darragh Fives may come back into contention for the replay. Time is against attacker Jamie Barron in his race to regain fitness while Stephen Daniels, Philip Mahony and Stephen Bennett remain on the long-term injury list.
“Stephen (Molumphy) is a possibility,” said Flannery. “It might come a bit early for Jamie. I’d say Stevie would be the best chance and maybe Darragh Fives.”
