Balotelli and Liverpool new boys report for training

The Reds have kicked off their pre-season preparations, in front of Jurgen Klopp.

MARIO BALOTELLI HAS reported for the start of Liverpool’s pre-season training, meeting Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp for the first time.

The striker, who admitted he has “got stuck at five out of 10 in the last two years,” has linked up with the squad as they begin preparations for the 2016-17 season.

He is surplus to requirements at Anfield, and no concrete offers have been forthcoming for the Italian given his dwindling form coupled with a lack of commitment.

Balotelli has vowed to correct both flaws, although that is likely to happen away from Liverpool as he does not fit into Klopp’s blueprint.

“The most important thing is that I have realised my mistakes and it is not too late yet,” the forward told Corriere della Sera.

“I don’t want to reach the end of my career thinking that I have not done everything to become the best.”

New acquisitions Sadio Mane, Joel Matip, Loris Karius and Marko Grujic have all kickstarted their Liverpool careers alongside the players who were not involved in tournament duty.

Luis Alberto and Lazar Markovic, who both face uncertain futures, have also reported to Melwood.

Mamadou Sakho, fresh of doing charity work in Senegal and with a pending UEFA hearing hanging over him, was present for the first session.

Sergi Canos, who is set to exit the club this summer with Liverpool accepting a £2.5 million bid from Bristol City, although the player is stalling on that deal amid interest from Norwich, joined the team as well.

The first session will primarily focus on testing rather than training, led by the club’s new head of fitness and conditioning Andreas Kornmayer. The squad will then face a gruelling double session on Sunday.
