'Go back to hurling and Riverdance' - Chael trolls McGregor in Twitter tirade

“Your next opponent should be the guy who sold you those awful suits.”

CHAEL SONNEN HAS had a playful dig at Conor McGregor and it’s all in the name of business.

According to the former UFC title challenger, more Daniel Cormier [the UFC's light-heavyweight champion] merchandise sold on Sonnen’s website over the weekend than McGregor’s ‘Red Panty Night’ t-shirts.

Sonnen subsequently took to Twitter and challenged the notion that McGregor is currently the biggest draw in the UFC.

The Dubliner doesn’t like to finish second when it comes to numbers, so it seems that Sonnen is hoping the UFC interim featherweight champion will aim to address that by promoting the t-shirts to his fans and overtaking Cormier — and, most importantly from Sonnen’s point of view, bringing in some extra revenue for Sonnen’s Bad Guy Inc brand.

Sonnen, who has now retired from MMA, was regarded as the sport’s biggest trash talker during his career but that mantle has since been assumed by McGregor.

The pair have previously had a good relationship so Sonnen’s tirade is unlikely to have been malicious, but the 38-year-old Oregon native did challenge the Irish star to a battle of MMA’s biggest trash talkers: “1 stage 2 mics. We do it for charity. He’s gonna need more than cheep whiskey to out spit the Original.”
