Reigning champions DCU claim victory to set up Sigerson semi-final against Jordanstown

DCU triumphed away to IT Carlow tonight.

DCU 0-14
IT Carlow 0-7

REIGNING CHAMPIONS DCU booked their place in the semi-finals of this year’s Sigerson Cup on the back of a strong quarter-final display in Carlow tonight.

At the interval, DCU were tied at 0-5 apiece with IT Carlow tonight but they took over in the second-half.

And their prize is a semi-final against hosts Jordanstown in a glamour clash next Friday in Belfast.

IT Carlow provided DCU with a stern examination in the first-half. The teams were tied at 0-2 apeice after the opening quarter and were still level at 0-5 apiece before the interval.

Shane Carey and Diarmuid O’Connor were both on target in front of goal for DCU while Chris Conroy showed up well for IT Carlow.

But DCU upped the ante after the break with Carey raising more white flags and substitutes like Tipperary’s Steven O’Brien and Kerry’s David Mannix also chipping in on the scoreboard.

They restricted to IT Carlow to just two points in the second-half and ran out seven-point victors.

Scorers for DCU: Shane Carey 0-7 (0-4f), Diarmuid O’Connor, Enda Smith, David Mannix 0-2 each, Steven O’Brien 0-1.

Scorers for IT Carlow: Chris Conroy 0-5 (0-4f), Michael Hurley, Chris Healy 0-1 each.
