1 hr ago 9′ – ENG 0-3 IRL: Crowley slots over the easy three after a bright start by Ireland at Twickenham.

30′ – ENG 0-15 IRL: Jamie George replaces Luke Cowan-Dickie, who doesn’t appear to be injured.

30′ – ENG 0-15 IRL: Van der Flier with the line-break from inside his own 22′!

Gibson-Park is eventually dragged down and Crowley tries to find Baloucoune with the crossfield kick — England get the mark. Not sure that was the right option by the Irish out-half, albeit they didn’t seem to have much in the way of support after such a quick break!

This is incredible by Ireland but they really should be further ahead.

Meanwhile, referee Andrea Piardi has pulled a muscle and is going to have to be replaced! Pierre Brousset will sub in as the man in the middle.

Try for Ireland! England 0-15 Ireland; yellow card for Freddie Steward (England)

28′ – TRY FOR IRELAND! ROBERT BALOUCOUNE! OH IT’S SENSATIONAL!

The line-break by Stuart McCloskey! He’s stopped just short! Ireland go left, and Gibson-Park is interfered with illegally — that’s going to be a yellow for England, by the way — but he wrestles free and tees up Baloucoune for the walk-in score in the right-hand corner!

Freddie Steward is sent to the bin.

Crowley’s conversion from the right… is off the mark.

22′ – ENG 0-10 IRL: Piardi adjudges Jamie Osborne to have infringed upon Freddie Steward in the air and a nearly-try by the onrushing Jamison Gibson-Park is chalked off before he reaches the line.

Ireland are incensed! It was a borderline call: Osborne can claim he went for the ball, but he didn’t really get close at the same time and just knocked it loose from the Englishman in the air.

England 0-10 Ireland

22′ – ENG 0-10 IRL: England concede a breakdown penalty on their own ball, just inside their own half, under pressure from Sheehan and Beirne.

Crowley pulls his effort at goal wide left, though. That was eminently makeable. Ireland’s place-kicking woes continue.

Try for Ireland! England 0-10 Ireland

20′ – TRYYYYYY FOR IRELAND! JAMISON GIBSON-PARK!

A wonderful break down the right — McCloskey with the skip pass to Baloucoune, who feeds O’Brien on the inside!

Ireland swing left, England concede a penalty, and Gibson-Park taps quickly from 15 and darts over the line!

Wow, incredible!

Crowley, from an acute enough angle on the left, splits the post.

Ireland, from nowhere, lead by 10!

19′ – ENG 0-3 IRL: Another goal-line stand by Ireland, who are now under the pump!

Exceptional five-metre defence until an English pass doesn’t go to hand and Ringrose seizes on the loose ball before Lowe hacks one clear.

Mightily impressive D by Ireland but it doesn’t feel sustainable.

James Lowe, meanwhile, is coming off injured, with Tommy O’Brien onto the left wing.

A big loss. Thanks heavens for that 5-3 bench, eh?

16′ – ENG 0-3 IRL: England win a scrum penalty against the head just inside the Irish 22′.

But George Ford, who already missed touch earlier, kicks the ball dead!

A huge let-off for Ireland, but that scrum is under immense pressure already.

15′ – ENG 0-3 IRL: An electrifying start to this one. Both sides attacking from transition and trying to get around the edge. Some huge carries, tackles, and plenty of errors — but it’s a breathtaking watch!

A real 50-50 tussle so far.

13′ – ENG 0-3 IRL: England go close with their first attack of the game but Ireland make the goal-line stand and a big hit — I think by Ringrose — forces the knock-on!

Ireland exit towards halfway.

Ooft, England showed serious power there as they blasted their way to the Irish 5′.

England 0-3 Ireland

9′ – ENG 0-3 IRL: Crowley slots over the easy three after a bright start by Ireland at Twickenham.

8′ – ENG 0-0 IRL: Ireland’s multi-phase attack — and another break by Gibson-Park — takes them fairly close, and England concede a penalty on their own 5′.

7′ – ENG 0-0 IRL: Joe McCarthy blows up the English maul and steals it on the home 22′! Ireland back on the attack!

6′ – ENG 0-0 IRL: England get a shove on in the first competitive scrum of the game and win a penalty on their own 5′.

Henry Pollock gives it the big’ne to Josh van der Flier.

3′ – ENG 0-0 IRL: A brilliant Irish attack — with some lovely link-up and half-breaks by Gibson-Park and Crowley — puts James Lowe away down the left but he loses concentration and drops the ball cold in a carry as he approaches the English 5′!

There were defenders there but that was a chance. And a superb start with ball in hand by the men in green.

2′ – ENG 0-0 IRL: George Ford tries a chip over the top in Irish territory and, after some pinball, England knock it on.

Scrum Ireland between their own 10m line and 22′ — and they win a free-kick for an early English engagement.

Tadhg Beirne then steals an English lineout in the hosts’ half!

1′ – ENG 0-0 IRL: George Ford kicks us off at Twickenham!

God Save the King is finished, and it’s showtime in London!

Ireland’s Call underway at Twickenham.

Still time for a cup of tea, which is my plan now. Kick-off in around 10 minutes’ time. Tentatively looking forward to this one.

England captain Maro Itoje is making sure to break in his custom-made boots, designed to mark his 100th cap.

You wouldn’t wish ill on anyone, but if fate was to throw a couple of blisters his way this afternoon, it would be quietly appreciated by this liveblogger.

Temperature check

It’s 13 degrees at Twickenham, feels like eight. Cloudy but dry. Make of that what you will.

More importantly, how are you all feeling about this one? What’s your sense of it?

A late change to Ireland's 23

Replacement back row Jack Conan has been ruled out through illness, so Connacht’s Cian Prendergast comes into Andy Farrell’s matchday squad.

Prendergast started Ireland’s Six Nations opener away to France but dropped out of the squad for last weekend’s home win over Italy.

The France game was Prendergast’s first Six Nations start, and today will be the 25-year-old’s 10th Test cap.

Good afternoon!

Welcome, one and all, to The 42′s live coverage of Ireland’s Six Nations Round 3 meeting with England at Twickenham — or Allianz Stadium as it’s now known.

Gavan Casey with you here, and I’ll bring you a blow-by-blow account of the action — or close enough to it — from 2:10pm.

England are big favourites, fancied by as many as 11 points with many oddsmakers. Ireland are somewhere between 4/1 and 3/1 to pull off what would be an upset in London.

There’s still a Triple Crown on the line for Andy Farrell’s side who, technically speaking, are not out of the title race just yet. England, meanwhile, will seek to rebound from their shock defeat away to Scotland and get back into the title picture with a home victory today.
