AFTER A SUMMER of big spending, the Rossoneri have decided that seventh spot, 18 points behind Serie A leaders Napoli, is not good enough and have parted company with manager Vincenzo Montella.
Montella was only given a new contract this summer after leading Milan to sixth position and winning the Supercoppa following his appointment in 2016.
However, following Sunday’s scoreless draw with Torino, Montella was relieved of his duties.
He will be replaced by former Milan captain Gennaro Gattuso.
The 39-year-old made over 400 appearances for the Italian giants and was in charge of the club’s youth team this season.
A statement on Twitter today reads:
“AC Milan announce the removal of Vincenzo Montella from the post of coach of the first team.
“Technical management is entrusted to Gennaro Gattuso, who leaves his position as a Primavera coach, and to whom we send our warmest wishes of good luck.”
Milan take on Benevento on Sunday.
