JAMES O’DONOGHUE DIDN’T suffer any serious damage to his right shoulder during Kildare’s hammering of Kildare at Croke Park yesterday, it has been confirmed.
The 2014 footballer of the year was forced off in the first-half after colliding with Kildare goalkeeper Mark Donnellan.
After being treated by Kerry’s medical staff, he was then replaced by Barry John Keane and as he clutched his shoulder while leaving the pitch.
In a statement released on Monday afternoon, Kerry confirmed the Legion club man had an X-Ray after the game but it didn’t reveal any serious damage.
“James O’Donoghue injured his shoulder when he fell following a tackle by the goalkeeper in yesterday’s All Ireland Football Quarter final tie with Kildare,” the statement reads.
“The Kerry Medical Team immediately realigned the shoulder and an X-Ray afterwards showed that there was no serious injury sustained.
“He will have a routine MRI Scan and will rest for a few days before beginning rehab and a graduated return to action.”
It’s the latest injury setback for O’Donoghue after he missed all of this year’s National League campaign following surgery on his shoulder during the winter.
Today’s news, however, will be a boost for the Kingdom ahead of their All-Ireland semi-final on 23 August.
