Here’s the Irish in action today (via this morning’s Olympics Breakfast)

Sanita Puspure is the first of the Irish team out today in Rio as she rows in the women’s single sculls quarter final at 1.10pm. She’ll be hoping to build on some fantastic performances by the other Irish rowers yesterday.

The Irish eventing team will be jumping tomorrow as the competition draws to a close. They’re still in contention and currently lie in eighth place in the team standings. It all kicks off at 2pm.

At 4pm, the Irish men’s hockey team will aim to get their first win against Germany after disappointing results against both India and The Netherlands. However, Craig Fulton’s men face a stern test as the Germans are the current Olympic champions.

We return to the pool at 5pm as Nicholas Quinn competes in the heats of the men’s 200m breathstroke. The Mayo man will take his place in lane 3 during heat 3 and he will be hoping to improve on a fourth-place finish in his 100m breathstroke heat last Saturday. If the Irish swimmer manages to qualify from his heat, he will be swimming again later that night at 3am for the semi-finals.

Cork’s Latvian-born rower Sanita Puspure will go in her quarter-final at 1.40pm.

Conditions look a lot better but she’s said to be in the tougher side of the draw. RTÉ will be televising if you can get to a telly on your lunch break. Top three progress.

So the Irish rower has some work to do.

Australia’s Kimberley Brennan is in first place.

Australia, Belarus and China power through in the qualifying positions, despite a massive effort from the Cork-based rower. That’s agonising.

That was a thrilling if gut-wrenching finish from Puspure.  She powered into our screens in the last metres, having seemingly been completely left behind.

Puspure ran out of water and gave her competitors too much respect, according to former Olympian Neville Maxwell on RTÉ.

Tough stuff.

Abbott and Euro Prince are 15th on the show-jumping start list. We’re 11 in, so tune in to RTE to catch her round.

After a strong start to her Olympic campaign yesterday, Annalise Murphy is gearing up for another big afternoon of sailing.

The Dubliner heads into the third race of the Women’s Laser Radial class in third position in the overall standings.

Her races today are at 5.05pm and 6.30pm Irish time.

What a hit! Eugene Magee brings Ireland level with a thunderbolt from the edge of the circle. Three minutes left in the second quarter.

After making the 100m backstroke semi-finals at the weekend, Shane Ryan is back in the pool for the 100m freestyle heats. It’s not his strongest discipline but he’s coming off the back of a fine performance and confidence will be high.

He goes in the third of eight heats.

Another cracking swim from Shane Ryan! He finishes second in his heat in a time of 49.82. With five heats to go, it’s now a waiting game for the Irishman with the 16 fastest times to qualify for the semi-finals.

Annalise is now due in the water at 5.25pm due to high winds down in Guanabara Bay. Finn Lynch, who was scheduled to start around now, will also have to bide his time.

So, so frustrating for Ireland. At one end, Watt goes within inches of giving Craig Fulton’s men the lead before Germany capitalise on some lazy Irish defending.

After missing out on qualification in the 100m breaststroke heats over the weekend, Nicholas Quinn will hope for a better result when he takes to the starting block for the 200m breaststroke heats in a few minutes.

The 23-year-old from Mayo goes in the second heat with the top 16 to advance to tonight’s semi-finals.

There’s hope yet. Mitch Darling pulls one back with 53 seconds remaining. 3-2 to Germany.

Craig Fulton’s side fall short again as they go down 3-2 to Germany at the Olympic Hockey Stadium. There’s still hope yet though as victories over Canada and Argentina in the final group games would secure qualification through.

It’s a waiting game now for Nicholas Quinn. He produces a great swim to win his heat in a time of 2:11.67 but he must watch the remaining heats to find out if he’s done enough to qualify for the semi-finals.

Remember, it’s the fastest 16 swimmers to progress.

Superb from Annalise Murphy! In high winds, the Dubliner — who started the day third in the standings — battles to finish fourth in the third race of the Women’s laser radial class.

The 20-year-old impresses on the water to claim 14th in the third race of the Men’s laser and he now sits 20th overall with seven races remaining.

After moving up to second in the overall standings, Annalise Murphy is back on the water in the next few minutes for the fourth race of the Women’s laser radial.

Michael O’Reilly has this evening admitted he unintentionally took a supplement that may have contained a banned substance in the lead up to the Olympic Games.

The 23-year-old middleweight fighter received a provisional suspension for failing a doping test before leaving for Rio.

Another stellar performance from Annalise today sees her jump up to second from third in the overall standings.

A seventh-placed finish in her second race of the day, and the fourth of the Women’s laser radial, has given her a great chance of winning a medal — but there is a long way to go with six races to come over the next four days.
