US teenage prodigy Biles secures gold medal hat-trick

The gymnast’s incredible run at the Rio Olympics continued today.

SIMONE BILES KEPT her bid to become the first woman to win five Olympic gymnastics gold on track Sunday, taking the vault title for her third crown in Rio.

The 19-year-old Texan has already won the all-around and team titles in Brazil with the beam and floor finals to come next week.

She scored a combined 15.966 after two powerful vaults — 15.900 and 16.033 — to take gold ahead of world champion Maria Paseka of Russia (15.253).

Swiss Giulia Steingruber took bronze 15.216 in the Rio Olympics Arena.

Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar, bidding for her country’s first gymnastics medal, finished off the podium in fourth in the eight-woman final.

North Korean Hong Un-jong, the 2008 Olympic champion, fell on her bottom coming out of her second vault, dropping to sixth.
