A MAN HAS DIED after plunging over a Wrigley Field railing following the Chicago Cubs’ MLB game against the Cincinnati Reds.
Richard E Garrity, 42, fell from a height while leaving the ballpark around 11pm (local time) on Tuesday — causing head trauma.
Garrity was pronounced dead on Wednesday at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
“Following yesterday’s [Tuesday] game, a male fan was injured after a fall as he was exiting the ballpark,” the Cubs said in a statement. “Paramedics responded immediately and transported him to a local hospital.
“We have since learned he passed away today [Wednesday] though we have no further information.
The thoughts and prayers of our entire organisation are with his family during this difficult time.”
Life-long Cubs fan Garrity – a marketing manager with Heineken – attended the game as a work outing with colleagues and his wife, his father, Richard Garrity Sr, told the Chicago Tribune.
The incident occurred after World Series champions the Cubs defeated the Reds 9-5.
