A HAT-TRICK from Patrick Hoban helped Dundalk beat Bohemians 3-0 at Oriel Park this evening.

Hoban opened the scoring on 27 minutes, as he connected with Dane Massey’s dangerous cross to give his side the lead from close range.

Ten minutes after half-time, Dundalk were two-up, as Hoban’s well-executed header, after being set up by Kurtis Byrne, doubled the hosts’ advantage.

Hoban then completed his hat-trick with just over 20 minutes remaining, with a fine long-distance strike, before veteran Bohs defender Owen Heary was sent off shortly thereafter, receiving a straight red for a rash challenge.

Meanwhile, Shamrock Rovers secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Derry City at Tallaght Stadium, going 13 matches unbeaten in the process.

The home side took the lead through a spectacular Sean O’Connor volley on 38 minutes.

Shortly after half-time, Michael Rafter equalised with a composed penalty, after Billy Dennehy clumsily fouled Eoghan Osbourne in the box.

Roves then produced an immediate response, courtesy of another superb strike from O’Connor, and ultimately managed to hold on for the remainder of the half for another important win.

Finally, Shelbourne earned just their third win of the season, as they overcame Cork City 2-1 at Tolka Park.

After struggling somewhat in the first period, the hosts took the lead through Lee Murtagh ten minutes after the break, blasting home following a goalmouth scramble prompted by Stephen Hurley’s free kick.

Darren Tinnelly then made it 2-0, finishing in clinical fashion following a superb counter-attack by the hosts.

Kalen Spillane ensured a lively finish, heading home Daryl Horgan’s corner to give Cork hope, but Shels held on for an important three points.
