Airtricity League wrap: Sligo and Rovers drop points, as Pat's hit four

Meanwhile, at the lower end of the table, Bray secured a hard-fought victory over UCD.

SLIGO ROVERS WERE forced to content themselves with a 0-0 draw away against Bohemians this evening, though they still find themselves six points clear at the top of the Airtricity League table going into the mid-season break.

Despite the scoreline, chances were by no means in short supply, in a game that saw Jason McGuinness sent off late on for the visitors.

Shamrock Rovers failed to fully capitalise on their rivals’ slip-up after they could only draw 1-1 with Cork City.

An 85th minute Gary Twigg header was cancelled out by a dramatic last-gasp John Dunleavy goal at Tallaght Stadium.

Elsewhere, St Patrick’s Athletic earned a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Monaghan United.

Goals from Christy Fagan and Greg Bolger, in addition to a brace from Jake Kelly, gave the visitors a victory that did not always seem so certain, given that three of their four goals came in the last ten minutes.

Meanwhile, Drogheda came out on top in the Louth derby tonight, as they beat Dundalk 2-1.

Goals from Sean Brennan and Paul Crowley were just about enough for Mick Cooke’s men, who responded well to Gary Shanahan’s 63rd minute equaliser.

It was a similarly tight affair at the Brandywell, as Shelbourne narrowly defeated Derry City 1-0.

Philip Hughes’ goal midway through the second half was enough to make it a happy trip home for the Dubliners.

Finally, Jason Byrne scored twice, as Bray Wanderers secured a 3-1 victory over UCD.

Danny Ledwith had equalised for the Students after Byrne’s opener, before John Mulroy sealed the hosts’ victory in injury time.
