Dalymount's final days closing in as Bohemians produce stirring comeback win over Derry City
Alan Reynolds’ side come out on top 5-3 in a thrilling contest in north Dublin.
THE FINAL COUNTDOWN is on at Dalymount Park and if this victory is anything to go by Bohemians are intent on saying goodbye to the old place in style.
Four different scorers in a brilliantly chaotic comeback sent most of the 4,042 who rocked up to this sliver of north Dublin happy.
Ross Tierney’s stunning second goal in the 87th minute to make it a truly five-star show most certainly put a pep in their step heading into the weekend.
This visit of Derry City was the first of Bohs’ remaining five fixtures here in the Premier Division before the redevelopment of their Phibsborough home. More nights like this will make it a memorable way to say goodbye.
Unless something truly drastic happens they will not be parading the league trophy come the end of October.
The FAI Cup is most certainly on their radar, not to mention qualification for Europe for the second season in a row, and after being drawn away to St Patrick’s Athletic in the quarter-final earlier this week there will be some serious business to come to ensure a place in the Aviva Stadium showpiece keeps their hopes of silverware alive.
Still, this was a night of fun on the northside of Dublin.

Pretty much all of it came early in the second half with three goals for the hosts and a red card for the visitors inside 10 minutes compounding matters.
Bohs trailed 1-0 at the break after a fine Derry goal from Michael Duffy that was created by the burst of speed from Barry Cotter.
Senan Mullen was left for dust by the right back and almost made up for it moments later when the left back’s volley over the shoulder smashed off the bar after a gorgeous scooped ball from Harry Vaughan took out the Derry defence.
It would have been a goal of the season contender.
The interval brought a chance for both sides to regroup and plot their way to a successful night.
Derry, who could have moved to within a point of Dundalk in fourth with a victory, must have had their heads in the clouds coming out for the second half because they didn’t have them where it mattered in the box.
Patrick Hickey started the comeback with a bullet header from Jordan Flores’ corner on 47 minutes. Just over 60 seconds later and a deft clipped free kick from Dawson Devoy caught Derry napping and Connor Parsons buried the chance at the near post.
Another failed attempt at clearing a Flores corner on 53 minutes allowed Dougla James-Taylor pounce with a swivel and low finish in the box.
And just moments after that Derry’s heads were well and truly gone when James Clarke, who left Dalymount to head north over the winter, was shown a straight red card for a dangerous lunge on Parsons.
It was such a stunningly disastrous spell for Derry that you had to check if James McClean had taken to Instagram to have his say. He didn’t. His last post came an hour or so earlier and was a picture of the opening Premier League game of the season between Arsenal and Coventry City.
There was a Derry lifeline on 63 minutes when Tyler Smith was in the right place at the right time to finish at the near post after a cross from the right flank.
Still, Bohs made the numerical advantage work in their favour and didn’t allow panic to set in. Devoy, of course, dictated matters but it was Tierney who produced the most eye-catching moment of all on 79 minutes.
He made the most of the open space in a central area and with no one closing him down he let fly with a strike from around 25 yards. Straight away you knew he caught it sweet. There was a brief hush among the Bohs fans who were in the middle of belting out a chorus of the Auld Triangle.
They watched the ball nestle in the top right corner and Tierney took the acclaim. He also had the final touch of the night when he tipped off after Duffy scored another consolation from the penalty spot after the award of a spot kick in the 95th minute.
There was plenty packed into the night and the Bohs faithful will hope there is so much more to come as their Dalymount farewell enters its most emotional period.
