Here's Conor McGregor's recovery timetable for cruciate injury

“The Notorious” wants to be back in the octagon by May of next year.

IRELAND’S RISING UFC star Conor McGregor is setting May 2014 as the target date for his return to the octagon.

McGregor is set for surgery on the cruciate knee injury that is expected to keep him out of action for up to 10 months.

The Dubliner tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and posterior horn meniscus as well as straining his medial cruciate ligament (MCL) during his win against Max Holloway earlier this month.

Yesterday he set out his recovery timetable and revealed that he hopes to be back boxing in three months time.

“Going ahead with surgery,” he tweeted. “Boxing again in 3 months, Kicking in 4, Grappling in 5, Wrestling-6, Sparring-7, Fighting-9. See you in May 2014!!”

Barring any setbacks, that timetable should leave McGregor fit and ready for an appearance on home soil following UFC president Dana White’s announcement that the promotion will return to Ireland late next year.

‘He will be back even stronger,’ insists McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh
