Conor Murray loves scoring against the All Blacks

Murray’s try in the 69th minute paved the way for a storming Lions comeback.

WITH THE SERIES on the line, Conor Murray stood up and took charge.

The Lions trailed the All Blacks 21-14 with 12 minutes of this morning’s second Test in Wellington to play, and despite having a man advantage for most of the game, looked to be in big trouble.

But Jonny Sexton set up Jamie George for a big carry deep inside the 22, and Murray picked from the base of the ruck, darting between TJ Perenara and Ardie Savea to give the Lions their lifeline.

“Any time you score a try against New Zealand, it’s an awesome feeling,” Murray told Sky Sports afterwards.

“Typical from me that it was a short range effort, finishing off the good work of the lads. I was happy to go over and help the team.”

Owen Farrell converted from a tight angle to level the match, and then held his nerve two minutes from time to kick the winning penalty, give the Lions a 24-21 win, and send the series to a deciding Test in Eden Park next Saturday morning.

“It’s 1-1 now and we have a chance to win this and that was the aim of tonight,” Murray said.

“It’s a good week to go training, had we lost today it would have been a tough week. There’s going to be a bounce in our step.”
