A NEW DOCUMENTARY on David Rudisha, the Olympic 800m champion and world record holder, and his Cork coach Brother Colm O’Connell will air tonight.

’100 Seconds To Beat The World: The David Rudisha Story’ is on BBC Four at 10pm.

The hour-long documentary follows Rudisha’s rise over 10 years from Iten in Kenya’s Rift Valley to the summit of middle-distance running and his unforgettable triumph in London’s Olympic Stadium.

Dubbed “the Godfather of Kenyan running”, O’Connell moved to Kenya in 1976 as a geography teacher and missionary. Although he arrived with no running experience or formal sports training, he has since coached five Olympic gold medallists and 20 world champions.

Both Rudisha and O’Connell were in Dublin last year where the Cork native was presented with an honorary doctorate by Dublin City University.

Rudisha, 25, competes at the Commonwealth Games which open in Glasgow tomorrow.
