NEXT SATURDAY’S EIRGRID U21 football in Connacht between Roscommon and Mayo has been moved from Dr Hyde Park.
It’s as a result of concerns over the pitch at the Roscommon venue with Markievicz Park now set to host the fixture on Saturday evening at 6pm.
Dr Hyde Park hosted last Sunday’s meeting of Roscommon and Mayo but pools of water were noticeable on the pitch and underfoot conditions were difficult for both sides.
Roscommon and Dublin are set to meet at the venue on Sunday afternoon in the Allianz football league, which has resulted in the decision to protect the pitch.
In an official statement released today, Roscommon chairman Seamus Sweeney explained the thinking behind the decision.
“We host the Dubs in Hyde Park on Sunday and that has been marked on the calendar for a long time.
“We want to host the all Ireland champions in Hyde Park.
“I’m confident that Peter Murray and his wonderful team will have the pitch in good order for Sunday.
“We hope to carry out major works on the pitch in the summer and have it ready for 2017.”
The Connacht minor league game between Roscommon and Galway fixed for next Saturday has also been switched from Dr Hyde Park and will now take place in Tuam Stadium.
