Happy days: Colvert sets Irish U23 100m Record

Joanne Cuddihy also produced an excellent performance in the 400m Golden Grand Prix in Kawasaki, Japan.

STEVEN COLVERT HAS set a new Irish U23 100m Record with a time of 10.35 to win his race at the Occidental Invitational in California.

Colvert improved on his personal best (10.45), which he had set earlier in the week at the Steve Scott Invitational in San Diego, breaking  the original record of Jason Smyth, a Para-Olympian Gold medallist, in the process.

In addition, Colvert won his 200m race in 20.77 – a time that was only two hundredths off his personal best.

Paul Hession finished sixth in the same meet, recording times of 10.64 (100m) and 21.44 (200m) respectively.

Meanwhile, Joanne Cuddihy produced a strong performance in the 400m Golden Grand Prix in Kawasaki, Japan, setting a time of 51.78, which meant she finished the race in second place behind Amantle Montsho of Botswana.
