Heads or tails? Saracens scrum-halves to flip to decide who starts Premiership final

Club agree to Wigglesworth and de Kock’s suggestion that selection be left up to chance.

IF YOU ARE fortunate enough to have two first-class scrum-halves at your disposal for an Aviva Premiership Final, how do you decide which one of them should play?

Well, if you’re Saracens, it seems that you simply toss a coin.

Having used the club’s two No9s, Neil de Kock and Richard Wigglesworth, in strict rotation all season long, coach Mark McCall found himself unsure over which scrum half to start with against the Leicester Tigers at Twickenham on Saturday.

In a novel solution to the headache, the players asked McCall to leave the decision up to fate and simply toss a coin to see who should be named in the starting XV.

McCall has indicated that the player who loses the toss will be introduced as a substitute around the 50-minute mark, ensuring that both players are guaranteed at least a half-an-hour of game-time.

“Neil and I came up with the idea of tossing a coin because we have played in strict rotation all season,” Wigglesworth told The Guardian. “It seemed the simplest way and Mark agreed.”
