Ireland U21s beaten by ten-man Turkey in vital qualifier
NOEL KING’S IRISH under-21 side experienced disappointment this evening, as they were beaten 1-0 by Turkey in their European Championship Group 7 qualifier.
An Oguzhan Ozyakup effort sealed victory for the visitors six minutes from time, beating Ian McLoughlin after some hesitant defending from the hosts.
The result comes as a blow to Ireland’s qualification hopes, and the outcome was exacerbated by the fact that they were beaten by a Turkish side who had been reduced to ten men on 72 minutes, when Muhammet Demir was red carded for kicking Greg Cunningham.
Noel King’s men now are likely to need victories against both Hungary and Italy to secure a place in the playoffs.
