WALES INTERNATIONAL JAMIE Roberts limped off with a dead leg in this afternoon’s Varsity Match at Twickenham, an injury which could yet delay his debut for Harlequins.
British and Irish Lion Roberts, capped 74 times by Wales, was the first active international player to play in the match since Australia’s Dan Vickerman captained Cambridge in 2009.

But the 29-year-old was forced off at half-time with an injury which could prevent him from making his debut for the Premiership club against Calvisano in the Challenge Cup next week.
Roberts is studying for a two-year masters degree in medical science at Cambridge, qualifying him to compete in the Varsity match, which pits together Britain’s oldest and most prestigious universities and dates back to 1871.
Speaking after the game, Roberts said: ”It’s only a dead leg. It got worse and worse as the first half went on, and I couldn’t run after half-time so had to come off.
“The guys chucked everything into it and we can’t ask for anything more from them.
“It’s an amazing day, the pinnacle of student sport and for these boys it’s their cup final. A few of the guys are in tears and it’s very difficult.”
With Roberts watching on from the sidelines, an ice-pack strapped to his right thigh, fly-half George Cullen scored four penalties to steer Oxford to a record sixth successive victory.
Former Munster lock Ian Nagle impressed despite his Cambridge side losing out 12-6.
