Connacht have made eight changes to their side ahead of the game.

Robbie Henshaw makes his first start at outside centre, while Dave Gannon and George Naoupu are also among the new players starting tonight’s match.

The stadium is just about to hold a minute silence for Nevin Spence…

Connacht haven’t enjoyed the best of form against Glasgow recently. They were beaten by them 24-3 last May and drew with them 13-13 back in February of this year.

We’re underway and it’s already Glasgow 3-0 Connacht, with Scott Wight getting the penalty for his side.

Good start from the hosts, who have also missed a second penalty from distance.

The sides’ jerseys are an uncannily similar colour of blue at the moment.

According to the official Glasgow Twitter account, they’ll change into a white strip at half-time.

Also, if you haven’t noticed already, there was a late change to the Glasgow starting lineup, with Scott Wight replacing Duncan Weir at the last minute.

After 15 minutes, it’s still 3-0 to Glasgow.

The game has yet to develop any real rhythm, owing to the stop-start nature of the contest, though Connacht at least look more settled now, after a shaky start.

TRY FOR GLASGOW!

Very sloppy from Connacht, as a kick in their own 22 is charged down. Glasgow retrieve possession thereafter and a series of swift passes leads to Sean Lamont going over for a try in the corner on his return to the side.

Wight then narrowly misses a difficult conversion.

TRY FOR GLASGOW!

Glasgow 15-0 Connacht: A clever pass on the right wing enables Peter Murchie to expose some space in the Connacht backline and run over for another try.

Though it was a consummate finish from the winger, it was all too easy from Connacht’s perspective. Wight subsequently converts to give them a 15-point lead with just over ten minutes until half-time.

TRY FOR CONNACHT!

Glasgow 15-7: Connacht: Winger Mark McCrea gets Connacht back in this game as he dives over the ball on the try line after a clever chipped kick through.

Jarvis then gets a straightforward conversion in front of the posts to make it 15-7.

Jack Carty has replaced the injured Gavin Duffy by the way.

Great break through the centre of the Glasgow backline by McSharry, and the ball is then passed out to Carty, who is held up and tackled out of play just before the try line.

Glasgow 15-10 Connacht: Great effort from Jarvis, who kicks a penalty from a considerable distance, to bring Connacht to within five points of their opponents.

HALF-TIME: GLASGOW 15-10 CONNACHT

Connacht should be relatively pleased with the scoreline at half-time, given how this match has panned out.

A kick being charged down for the first try, coupled with poor defending for the second one, made it 15-0, and it looked as if the encounter could potentially be all over before half-time.

However, to Eric Elwood’s side’s credit, they showed good character to recover from those early setbacks.

An opportunistic try from McCrea, in addition to an excellently taken penalty from Jarvis, means they are right back into this game, and so the prospect of an unlikely victory remains.

The second half is underway…

Connacht have continued where they left off in the first half, and are currently putting pressure on Glasgow inside their 22.

By the way, the hosts have changed their kits at half-time to a white outfit, but given that there is also white on the Connacht jersey, the sides are still somewhat difficult to distinguish between.

TRY FOR CONNACHT!

Glasgow 22-17 Connacht: Initially, Connacht concede another poor try to give away, as they fail to deal with a high ball, which DTH van der Merwe subsequently collects and then runs under the posts, with Wight kicking over the ensuing conversion.

Glasgow then concede an equally appalling try to give away from the defence’s point of view – one of their players lets the ball slip out of his hands straight from the restart, and Nathan White gratefully capitalises on this mistake, collecting the ball and running over for another comfortable try, which Jarvis then converts.

This game has been incredibly error-strewn, as these types of early-season fixtures often tend to be, I suppose.

The attendance for tonight’s game is only 3,646, arguably illustrating the current disillusionment with the game among the Scottish public.

As I said, the change of jerseys hasn’t made much of a difference.

Just under 20 minutes remaining, and Connacht have continued to probe the Glasgow backline without much success since their last try.

It is the hosts, however, who are currently attacking inside the opposition 22.

Which team’s which? It’s hard to tell on account of the clashing jerseys (INPHO/Russell Cheyne).

TRY FOR GLASGOW!

Glasgow 27-17 Connacht: A swift break down the left allows DTH van der Merwe to escape down the wing and score another expertly finished try in the corner.

The conversion is missed, but with under ten minutes remaining, that’s surely game, set and match.

Jarvis goes for a penalty from distance that doesn’t quite have the legs to go over.

Connacht can’t win this game anymore, as with a minute remaining, they still need a converted try and a penalty simply to draw level.

FULL-TIME: GLASGOW 27-17 CONNACHT

So, probably a fair result on reflection.

Neither side were particularly outstanding, though Glasgow undeniably had more of the play, and always seemed to have the ability to pull away from Connacht when required.

Connacht ultimately made more elementary errors than their opponents in a game that was filled with mistakes, and their sloppiness consequently proved costly.

Plenty to work on then for Eric Elwood and his men.

I can’t think of a more appropriate note to end on than referencing another tweet complaining about the jersey farce tonight.
