Aaaaand we’re back. Welcome to our minute-by-minute coverage of this afternoon’s second Leinster SHC quarter-finals. Earlier today, Dublin handed out a right walloping against Laois to set up a semi-final date against All-Ireland champions Kilkenny, but who will join them? Will it be Offaly or will Wexford spring a surprise? We’re about to find out.

Throw-in in O’Connor Park is at 7pm, just five minutes away.

First up, here’s how Ollie Baker’s Offaly will set up:

James Dempsey; Derek Morkan, David Kenny, David Franks; Diarmuid Horan, Rory Hanniffy, James Rigney; Conor Mahon, Kevin Brady; Joe Bergin, Colin Egan, Brendan Murphy; Shane Dooley, Cathal Parlon, Brian Carroll.

And here’s Liam Dunne’s starting XV for Wexford:

Eanna Martin; Willie Devereux, Keith Rossiter, Stephen Murphy; David Redmond, Matthew O’Hanlon, Ciaran Kenny; Shaun Murphy, Diarmuid Lyng; Garrett Sinnott, Eoin Quigley, PJ Nolan; Rory Jacob, Jack Guiney, Paul Morris.

The general consensus in the run-up to tonight’s match is that there probably won’t be an awful lot between the teams. Offaly are two-point favourites with the bookies, but Liam Dunne has this Wexford team well-drilled and a shock isn’t completely out of the question.

We’re up and running. Offaly win the toss and choose to play into the wind in this first half.

Wexford corner-forward Paul Morris opens the scoring, getting out in front of Derek Morkan and turning to point. Wexford 0-1 Offaly 0-0

Offaly come straight back down the field and Shane Dooley gets them back on level terms. Wexford 0-1 Offaly 0-1

The rain is still coming down in O’Connor Park and it’s making for very greasy conditions underfoot. Diarmuid Lyng sends over a lovely sideline cut to restore Wexford’s lead. Wexford 0-2 Offaly 0-1

Playing against the wind, Offaly are dropping Shane Dooley back towards the half-forward line and leaving the Coolderry duo of Parlon and Carroll up top by themselves. Dooley wins a free which he points himself. Wexford 0-2 Offaly 0-2

Slack marking again by Derek Morkan lets Paul Morris get out in front all too easily and he points over his right shoulder to put Wexford back in front. Wexford 0-3 Offaly 0-2

Cracking score by Brian Carroll in the conditions. Willie Devereux forces him out wide but then slips, and the Coolderry man points from out on the left touchline. Wexford 0-3 Offaly 0-3

A long free sees 19-year-old full-forward Jack Guiney score his first championship point for Wexford. Wexford 0-4 Offaly 0-3

Diarmuid Lyng pulls it back across the 20 line to PJ Nolan and he has plenty of time to settle himself before pointing. Wexford 0-5 Offaly 0-3

Diarmuid Lyng puts his foot down to accelerate towards goal and adds a fine point from the middle of the park. Wexford 0-6 Offaly 0-3

Wexford have another free and Jack Guiney — son of Dave — takes account of the wind before converting from out on the right. Wexford 0-7 Offaly 0-3

Wonderful piece of play by Wexford to carve open the Offaly defence. Paul Morris plays a handpass to Diarmuid Lyng in behind the Offaly defense, Lyng collects brilliantly and decides to go low but James Dempsey gets a combination of boot and stick on the ball to force it around the post.

From the resulting 65, Jack Guiney drags it wide.

Offaly have been feeding off scraps in the last few minutes but that’s enough for Brian Carroll who comes deep to collect the breaking ball and point. That’s Offaly’s first score in nine and a half minutes as the clock ticks past 20. Wexford 0-7 Offaly 0-4

Bad wide by Jack Guiney who got out in front of David Kenny but, after doing all of the hard work, pulled it badly to the left and wide.

It’s getting scrappy enough but Offaly manage to get another score on the board through a fine field and point by Joe Bergin. Twenty-five minutes played. Wexford 0-7 Offaly 0-5

A huge roar goes up around O’Connor Park as referee John Sexton from Cork gets a little bit too close to the action and is clattered by Brian Carroll. He’s ok though.

Shane Dooley points to cut Offaly’s deficit to one. Wexford 0-7 Offaly 0-6

Offaly are livid — David Redmond stormed through the centre of the Offaly defence and was certainly caught, but he looked to have taken seven or eight steps before drawing the foul.

Jack Guiney lines up the 20-metre free and… oof, cracks it straight off the crossbar and Offaly hack clear. That’s a let-off but they’ll tell you that it should never have been a free in the first place.

Shane Dooley draws Offaly level and they’ll be quite happy with that considering they’re playing into the wind in this first half. They’ve outscored Wexford 0-4 to 0-0 in these last 15 minutes. Three left to play before the half-time break. Wexford 0-7 Offaly 0-7

GOAL! (Dooley, 33′) Great goal by Offaly and that could be a game-changer just before half-time. Joe Bergin picks him out with a long ball from the half-forward line, Dooley gets up highest to catch above Willie Devereux’s head, turns and shortens his grip before firing past Eanna Martin. Offaly 1-7 Wexford 0-7

Dooley adds another as we tick towards two minutes of additional time. Offaly 1-8 Wexford 0-7

Big score for Wexford who close the half out with a point despite some very elaborate build up play. Rory Jacob eventually finds the space to stick it over the bar and the teams go in with a goal between them at the break. Offaly 1-8 Wexford 0-8

HALF TIME: Offaly 1-8 Wexford 0-8

And we’re back underway for the second half.  Two changes for Wexford — Eoin Moore and Darren Stamp on for Shaun Murphy and Willie Devereux.

Shane Dooley opens Offaly’s second-half account with a free. The attendance on a wet night in O’Connor Park is confirmed as 7,315. Offaly 1-9 Wexford 0-8

Good play from Wexford who play the ball the whole down the field to Paul Morris who turns and scores. Offaly 1-9 Wexford 0-9

An interesting approach from Wexford manager Liam Dunne tonight. Rather than listing himself as bainisteoir, he’s down as the maor foirne (team manager) on the official team-sheet, which allows him to wear the maor foirne bib and go out onto the pitch and communicate directly with his players.

GOAL! (Bergin, 45′) A bit of confusion leads to Offaly’s second goal of the evening. After signalling for a free-in, referee John Sexton awards a drop ball on the Wexford 20-metre line. Joe Bergin reacts quickest to the breaking ball and pulls low across Martin into the corner. Offaly 2-9 Wexford 0-9

Brendan Murphy adds a smashing long-range point to stretch Offaly’s lead to seven. Offaly 2-10 Wexford 0-9

Shane Dooley adds another pair of frees for Offaly and all of a sudden, this game looks well out of Wexford’s reach. Just under 20 minutes to play. Offaly 2-12 Wexford 0-9

Rory Jacob scores Wexford’s first point in 13 or 14 minutes to bring his side back to within eight, but seconds before that, it could’ve been a goal but for a wonderful last-gasp tackle by Offaly corner-back David Franks. Offaly 2-12 Wexford 0-10

GOAL! (Guiney, 59′) Game on? Maybe, just maybe. Wexford win a 20-metre free and, after some dissent from the Offaly defence, referee John Sexton moves it to a more central position. Jack Guiney, who came so close in the first half, measures it up and slams the ball past the four men on the line. More than 10 minutes left and there’s only five points in it now. Offaly 2-12 Wexford 1-10

Hello, hello. Rory Jacob sends over a beautiful score from out on the right touchline and Wexford are back to within four. Offaly 2-12 Wexford 1-11

Great save by Eanna Martin to deny Shane Dooley a certain goal. Dooley didn’t catch the ball as cleanly as he would’ve liked but Martin gets enough behind it and his defenders pour in on top of the loose ball to scramble it behind for a 65.

Dooley is down receiving treatment so we’ll have a short break in play.

When he finally gets back to his feet, Dooley hooks it wide. That’s a let-off for Wexford and it might just prove to be a very timely tonic.

Wexford vary their puck-out strategy and when it finds its way back to Garrett Sinnott, the Oulart-the-Ballagh man makes no mistake. Offaly have switched off here and Wexford need no invitation. Offaly 2-12 Wexford 1-12

Rory Jacobs breaks down the right and hits a bad wide but referee John Sexton has brought play back for an earlier infringement — possibly a foul on Jacob as he was breaking through — and Jack Guiney scores. Offaly 2-12 Wexford 1-13

Two minutes plus additional time to play. Offaly lead by two.

PJ Nolan skies the ball high into the Tullamore evening sky and underneath it, Jack Guiney takes a tumble. Free in to Wexford but that looks like a harsh call on Offaly…

It couldn’t have been any closer. As the clock ticks into the red, Jack Guiney rifles another bullet that hits the target but is somehow stopped on the line. I don’t know who that hit and I’ll wager they don’t really know either. Doesn’t matter.

A frantic finish. The two minutes are up, it looks like Offaly will hang on.

FULL TIME: Offaly 2-12 Wexford 1-13

That’s it. A gripping contest but Offaly have hung on for a two-point win over their near, dear rivals. Ollie Baker’s men looked very comfortable midway through the second half but they switched off. The game changed with Guiney’s goal and the teenager was desperately unlucky not to nick with a second at the death. It looks like David Morkan might have got the crucial goal-line block in.

Man of the match Shane Dooley:

I was getting flashbacks of the league there for a minute. Wexford really came back into it in the second half.

We took the foot off the pedal and it’s something that we’ll need to address.

So it’s Offaly who go through to join Kilkenny and Dublin in the Leinster SHC semi-finals. They’ll know their opponent tomorrow afternoon when Galway take on Westmeath and we’ll have all the news from Cusack Park, as well as live minute-by-minute updates from the Croke Park double-header.
