Long to link up with Ireland U21 squad

Burnley defender Kevin Long is one of three names added to the squad ahead of Monday’s qualifier against Italy.

KEVIN LONG HAS been added to the Republic of Ireland U21 squad for next Monday’s UEFA U21 European Championships qualifier against Italy.

The 21-year-old defender, who spent the season on loan at Accrington Stanley and Rochdale from Burnley, is one of three new faces who will link up with Noel King’s side.

Aston Villa’s Samir Carruthers and Sean Murray of Watford will also join the squad tomorrow as their involvement with U19s at the European Championships qualifying tournament has concluded.

York defender Lanre Oyebanjo has been ruled out of the game in Sligo’s Showgrounds with an injury.

Meanwhile, Italy coach Ciro Ferrara has included Newcastle United’s senior international defender Davide Santon in his 22-man squad, which also features Stephan El Shaarawy of AC Milan.
