FELIX JONES WILL be unavailable for selection for Munster this weekend, having picked up an ankle injury in the 26-10 win over Gloucester on Saturday.
The 26-year-old suffered a slight sprain during the Heineken Cup encounter at Thomond Park, and as a result will miss Friday night’s game against Glasgow Warriors at Scotstoun Stadium.
It will certainly come as a relief to Munster fans that Jones’ injury is not more serious, with the former Leinster man having spent such an unfortunate portion of his career on the sidelines.
Meanwhile, Denis Hurley is set to undergo a scan on his left knee to identify possible medial ligament damage. The Cork man replaced Jones in the 58th minute of the Gloucester victory before being withdrawn himself just 10 minutes later.
Donnacha Ryan also took a knock to the left knee, occurring as he competed in the air in the build-up to Johne Murphy’s try. The Ireland international will join Hurley in having the injury scanned and will meet with a specialist before any confirmation of time frame for recovery.
Munster were forced into a late injury change ahead of the Gloucester game, with Niall Ronan deemed unfit to start after spraining an ankle in training on Thursday. He will continue to be assessed as the week progresses. Scrum-half Gerry Hurley is set to meet a specialist regarding his finger injury tomorrow as his rehab advances.
More positively, pacy wing Luke O’Dea was back in action for club side Shannon over the weekend, having recovered from a wrist injury. The 23-year-old played 30 minutes in the ODM Munster Senior Cup, his first action since May.
Ian Nagle (foot), Tommy O’Donnell (knee), Paddy Butler (thumb) and Simon Zebo (foot) all continue to work on the rehabilitation of their respective injuries.
