IRELAND’S EURO 2012 dream is over and now focus turns to the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Trap’s side are due to play Kazakhstan on September 7, before the all-important home tie with Germany on October 12.
Trapattoni consequently has a big decision to make: he can stick with more or less the same group of players that qualified for the Euros and subsequently failed to make any impact on the tournament, or he can make sweeping changes to Ireland’s ageing team.
Many critics have advocated the latter approach, with a series of promising youngsters such as James McCarthy, Seamus Coleman and Marc Wilson currently still waiting for a chance at international level.
However, Trapattoni is known for his conservative nature, therefore it would hardly be a surprise if he persists with more or less the same side he has fielded on a consistent basis since the beginning of his tenure.
So what do you think? What should be the Ireland XI for their first World Cup qualifier in September?
